So sad to hear this. It's the part of taking care of these sweet creatures that we all dread. I'll be praying for the little girl. Stay strong.

Last picture before the Gates of Hell swung open on the poor kids. I really felt bad for what they went through, but I think a boarding situation would've been far worse. And, in any case, at the end of the ordeal, it took 3/4 of them a maximum of 2 hours to come out of hiding in the basement and come upstairs and find all the new stuff cool. Mikesch took a bit more time, but was even more tame at the end of it.

After getting everything cleared out for the hardwood floor install, the kids politely state: "Are you slow, Dad? All these years, and you didn't know, that this is the proper way to set up a couch?!? Don 't worry, we have a very NICE nursing home lined up for you....."

Watching the resident chipmunk about 100 feet away. I was wondering what he was focusing on, and it took my old eyes about 10 minutes to find it. I pay close attention to my cat's reactions to the outdoors, and when his ears twitched, I was thinking BIG approaching predator in the woods, possibly HUMAN!! Until I realized he was focusing alot closer than I thought , and then I saw the almost invisible chipmunk. Another reason I want to backhand those who say cats are useless. I depend TOTALLY on my cats for situational awareness of what's going on in the 7 miles of woods 20 feet from my back door, quietly. A dog would give away the fact that I know something's there....

I tried early on to maintain my lifestyle, but I just got so homesick when I was on the road climbing/skiing/hiking, even though they were in good hands, that I had to just give it all up. I couldn't focus on the route, and it got too dangerous. How can such small animals have such a HUGE presence?

Floppy, about 15 years ago this week. At this point, we knew each other about 2 weeks, but we knew we'd known each other a LOT longer than that! And he single handedly put an end to my rock climbing /mountaineering fun!

Floppy was really stretched out here, which is why I took the pic -- he looked like he did when he was a 2 year old kitten. I've finally got the older cat's weight about where it should be. In fact, sometimes I have to give them a little extra by themselves because the youngster's out eat them.
