I pretty much do live in the sticks... My boss was telling me all about how young people such as myself take the bus everywhere these days, because they live in cities and it's readily available. Not as much for me...

Chewy is awesome for everything pets. I buy all my litter, food, catnip, etc on there and get it in two days. Nice when you live in the sticks.

It looks like window perches matching your description DO exist for reasonable prices on Chewy. I made an account on there, so maybe I will look into the dimensions and logistics (and ask my parents if they would be alright with having it attached to their window, since they live in the house, too), and then order one with my next large order (to get the free shipping, of course!). It may be hard to move the curtain out of the way without a cord (and I've actually never used a curtain cord before) but I could just slide the perch in sideways... DIY is not our speciality... not one bit.

We pretty much never touch the curtain. I doubt it is functional anyway since Watson ripped the cord off of it. It's still there basically because it's been sitting there for over 20 years... just like all the furniture. It's so large that, even if we bought newer (nicer-looking) ones, we would have trouble installing them and handymen are few and far between.

You could probably find a window perch that would install above the AC. Perhaps there's a removable one or one that folds so you don't lose the functionality of the curtain.

Also, the torn-up curtain isn't his fault... entirely. Generations of cats have been proudly working on that curtain for the past 25 years or so.

He still just BARELY fits on there... I detect his back legs starting to slide off. Where will his next favorite perch be? Who knows?

About this cat
On September 21st, 2018, we adopted a kitten from a local Petsmart, told she was a 4-month-old girl named Sophie (hence early references to "Sophie" and use of the words "she" and "her"). It turns out that he is a 5-month-old boy, so we named him Watson. He is remarkably sweet and trusting... and very playful! He reminds me very much of Dusty, may she rest in peace.
